It's almost10:00 p.m. here and it's still 82ºF! The past couple of weeks we've had upper 80's and low 90's with awful humidity which really makes it miserable working outside. The day before yesterday I went out around 8:00 and worked until @ 12:30 but finally had to quit because the humidity was getting to me. The yard here at our new house is heavily shaded with lots of large oaks, pine trees, maples and palms and we had tree trimmers here for four days this past week, thinning out the canopies and taking out a few pines. Even with the shade, I don't know how they do that work in this heat! A couple of things that have been blooming here lately: Plumbago ............................................. Daylily 'Midnight Raider' ? .................. Daylily 'Sweet Alpha' ? ![]() ![]() ![]() ~ I'm an old gal who still loves playing in the dirt! ~ Playing in the dirt is my therapy ... and I'm in therapy a lot! |

Good morning, well almost afternoon. Got that new cordless weed wacker and am fixin' to get out to run another battery down. I'd rather do it in the rain as it would be cooler, but the string doesn't cut wet stuff very well. Yep, it's so very hot out and want to run the sprinklers to cool things(me) down if it's not raining. Just wanted to check in before heading out there. Be back later when I have fried too much Molly |

Hot it is. Horrible, hard to breath. We just arrived back home from down south. The golden rain trees and the poincianas, just wonderful, out on 192, in undeveloped fl, the loblolly bays and mallows were going nuts, a great ride. We then got on turnpike, Traffic wicked, got to a toll booth, saw lights, and o my lord, going southbound. , a huge wreck, closed all lanes, and just miles of these poor people were standing out in the sun by their cars, trailers full of horses and cows, I cant stop thinking about them. Anyway, if your hot, your not alone ![]() |

Today is wonderful - cooler - just 83- with rain on & off. Looks like it will be "cooler"and wetter all week. Blessed are the Quilters for they are the Piecemakers. |

Oh that's terrible Pam. Makes me feel guilty for grousing about the heat. But I'm still going to grouse anyway. ![]() Got out this morn before 9 & figured I'd get some stuff done before the heavens turned on the broiler. ![]() Among other things, I had 10 big clumps of tuberose to plant. Did those before calling it a day. Folks it's DRY. Even in an area where there is clay it was DRY. I've never seen that clay area completely dry before. I'm looking at that radar & the rain just keeps petering out jessssssst before it hits Lake City. NEED RAIN. ![]() A nation mourns its fallen soldiers, who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. It skipped right over us a little bit ago. Ugh. ![]() Still keeping fingers crossed though. |

Looks like we're all getting some good rain coverage down this way. I love watching the weather radar maps, and today's is interesting - the rain is moving from East to West which is backwards from the usual direction. We're usually one of those places that the rain skips over, or goes around, but not today! Over an inch already and more to come, it appears. ![]() Check out what I saw on the shelf at Lowe's today - little bags of Spanish moss for $4 each. Stuff you can pick up off the ground just about anywhere here. ![]() These Elephant ears were really gorgeous big ones with black stems. Wish I had room for one! ![]() Here are my Gloriosa lilies in bud - I love these flowers at every stage, they are graceful and elegant. See the little curly tips of the leaves which grab onto things to climb? ![]() Elaine "Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm." –Winston Churchill |

It poured here. Thank goodness - I was not getting out there with the hose. Elaine, I've seen those bags of Spanish Moss at Lowe's, too. It made me laugh. They even had "gray" and "green". The green didn't look natural, though. I wonder if they colored it somehow? |

We got zero rain but we were saved by cloud cover. The temp. went down to 83 & stayed there for hours & hours. That's something to be thankful for. Glad some of you got rain. ![]() A nation mourns its fallen soldiers, who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. And Junior? Same here, last evening was nice enough to sit outside even though the rain missed us. The temp was 82, and the night before same time it was 94. Beautiful garden, Arlene. Elaine I agree about the Gloriosa lily, I was gifted some by another gardener, they sure don't mind this heat. A rescued den orchid from Lowe's for five bucks, one flower stem was broken, but some tape worked and flowers are doing fine. ![]() ![]() |

@flaflwrgrl We are frying in AR too. I check the temps in FL and AR and yesterday we were several degrees hotter than FL and the humidity....ugh. Nice going on the Den Sherri. Those flowers will last for a long time if you can keep it fairly cool, in the shade. "Cool" being a relative term in Florida in the summer. Yes, we had a very nice cool evening yesterday too. Elaine "Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm." –Winston Churchill |
