I know this is probably not lactuca virosa (wild lettuce) but could Lt be in the lactuca family. I've already nibble on some. Bitter no effect.

Maybe Lactuca serriola - prickly lettuce. Just because it has 'lettuce' in its name doesn't make it edible.

How did you manage to retire if you were born in 1960? You are just a young 'un!

Oh that is so cool. Prickly lettuce is the first must have plant I posted on my profile. Thought I might have collected it two years ago and have been adding it to my diet since. Been sorta of an argument here over it with a garden gal who raises dandelions to make jelly. Definitely gonna keep growing it and seed saving. Next year I'm gonna be raising some Lactuca virosa if anyone is interested
