I feel it is my duty as a forum member to warn and remind my fellow gardeners with too much ambition and too little time that you are going to walk slowly and make funny noises as you reach up, just to rub your eye, the morning after you tackle that big project in the yard, and there is nothing you can do to stop it.

Working all day in my yard, for two days, felt so good at the end of each day, it's the next morning that gets ya!

We chopped down some 35 year old Pine shrub ornamentals that should only be 3 feet tall, that were 12 feet. I know, I have no business being on a forum, if I let this happen. I cut, and drug limbs that were bigger than I am, for hours. Feeling good about completing a long overdo chore, I am rewarded with a new and also labor intensive chore. I have plants that were growing in a gentle shade, now being glared down by full sun. I refuse to acknowledge my body thinks these plants can just drop dead, damn it. So, new spots for these plants are chosen throughout the yard. One scoop of the shovel in each hole, was a total gamble. Some dug nice, showing decent soil, barely needing much amendments, others, solid orangy ugly clay, so back to the shed, to load up a wheel barrow. Amendments are really heavy.

Finally, the chore is done and the last tool is put away; it's 8:30 at night.

This morning, I realize the moment my eyes open, it would be a good idea to plan how to get out of bed, because just being awake hurts, hurts like every where. I wish I were exaggerating to make the story better, which I would totally do, but that is not the case. Trying to make the fewest grunts and groans possible, so dh does not wake with the thought he needs to replace me with a younger woman, I rise, and realize that standing is so much worse than getting out of bed was. I waddle down the hall, realizing it is going to be a slow morning. Making breakfast is immediately ruled out, and as I reach up for the Cocoa Puffs ( I deserve them, I worked hard) I am made aware of a whole separate set of muscles from my arms and all through my ribs, every little muscle, (gosh there are so many); that are also crabby as hell. Still having some shred of vanity, I refuse to let dh see how ridiculously sore I am from all our work, I keep each ache to myself, knowing it will pass in a day or so. I sit to enjoy my Cocoa Puffs and am made aware of a screaming bicep thru each and every bite, I must have picked out a really heavy spoon this morning. I rise to shower. As I am almost out of dh view, ready to hold the wall for support, he says, "Hey, your walking like an old lady this morning."

Damn it.

I pretend I did not hear him and waddle to the shower.

Oh, yard work is a good work out.

I take Motrin/Ibuprofen or Aleve/naproxin sodium (anti-inflammatories) before. Then after. And nice hot shower in between will help ward away those painful muscles (caused my inflammation) the next day. Ask me how I know? Rolling on the floor laughing

Sounds like what I feel like every day but you have a few things that I don't have.
You have a DH (mine died), you have a real bed (I sleep on the floor), and dang it all you have Cocoa Puffs and probably pour cow's milk on them and you got to sit down to eat them (nope, no chair here in the kitchen). Sigh. And no Cocoa Puffs for the lactose intolerant.

But I can feel your sense of accomplishment and am proud of you!! Proud of the work you did and proud of you for ignoring DH's remark - I would have decked him. Grumbling Lovey dubby Rolling on the floor laughing

Thank you for letting me whine today, ladies. Boy, Cheryl, I so should have taken some thing the night before, thanks for the reminder. @hostasmore, shhhh, it can't be age, can it???

And greene, Thank you, sorry for your loss, We sound like we would be better off with a big fruity smoothy with a healthy dose of peach vodka.

Laurie... the only time you need to truly worry about it being age related is when your eyelashes creak when you open your eyes. You are doing fine. You were able to move ... Smiling

Rolling on the floor laughing oh man, are my eyelashes going creak at a certain age, Lyn @RoseBlush1?
I wouldn't doubt it. It turns out I managed to give myself a hairline crack on a rib. It will mend. But of course; I went and got the hiccups, and it was torture. That made me started laughing, and Dan (husband) started laughing. I think when God is bored, I am his entertainment. Grumbling

@Greene, your dh sounds like wonderful person to have shared a life with. That is an unusual saying, and I love that you still hear him saying such wise simple truths. Where was he raised? What did he do?

I cannot imagine...you have been on my mind today, time and again.

Think I will have a big o glass of wine. Wine doesn't cause hiccups, does it??

Thank you for making me laugh tonight ladies.

Laurie... I don't know ... my eyelashes haven't creaked yet ... Rolling on the floor laughing My back creaks now and then, but I tell myself that doesn't count. I don't want to talk myself into believing that I may be getting old ... Rolling on the floor laughing

That crack rib ......... oh, that really hurts. I've done that one. I think that's worse than a creaking back.

Take care.

I read this in the morning today, and goodness it sounds word-for-word like me. I spent all day yesterday canning the fruits of hard labor. It doesn't sound like hard work, but being on your feet from 8am-9pm takes a toll on an old body!! I put up 24 half-pints of sweet/hot banana peppers, and 5 pints of sweet/hot zucchini. Monday I did 16 quarts of tomatoes, and 12 pints of pizza sauce, so yesterday was day 2 of no sitting.
Today, I am going to write some more of Book Four of my Pirate books, hopefully can get a chapter or two done. We'll see. I just can't sit still for long anymore...

Laurie at least with your waddling DH didn't accuse you of being pregnant.
I've got taking anti inflammatorys down to a science. Ibuprofen 800mg along with Zantac 150 to keep said ibuprofen from burning a hole through my stomach. It is MAGNIFICO. Aleeve can be taken the same way. I also take a Flexeril to hopefully take care of any muscle pain. I don't take the meds every day, you have to watch out for that liver. Great thread! Hurray!

UT OH!!! Before I even open my eyes, I have to use artificial tear gel...not tear drops...to get my eyes to open. I think creaking eyelashes are next. I am getting old! D'Oh! Crying

@Roseblush1, I am with you. I may feel old, the days I overdo, but I am not admitting it could be age. Thanks, the rib felt better today. I put on a decent jacket for work, and left the bra at home. Oh that really helped. If there had been a fire and I had to run, that would not have been good! Rolling on the floor laughing

Laurie .... I am only learning how to live in an older body. Since I haven't gotten it figured out, I certainly can't be old yet. My body may be workin' on it, but I haven't gotten the process down, yet, so I can't say I've made it that far ... or I am still in denial. I just have too much to do to bother with that stuff ... Rolling on the floor laughing
