I was wondering if anyone could identify this caterpillar on my Gregg's mistflower? It looks just like the blooms.

It's one of those caterpillars that uses flowers as camo. Hang on, let me Google.

Thanks GrammaChar! I thought it was a faded flower at first but then I saw it moving and couldn't believe it. Hilarious!

I think it's the Wavy-lined Emerald Caterpillar (Synchlora aerata).

I have a new found appreciation for caterpillars now. I have tons of Gulf Fritillary caterpillars on my passion vine.

@TexasPlumeria87 - be sure to let me know if you want anymore Greggs Mist. By late fall, whenever that is, it had just about engulfed my whole perennial bed. I'm sure it will have a head start in the spring, whenever that might be.

Thanks tx_flower_child. Gregg's mistflower has become my favorite garden plant. I planted two last Summer and they took up a corner or my flower bed. I'd love to plant some in other parts of my garden. I'll have to find something to trade for them. Thumbs up

@TexasPlumeria87 - I just had another look at the pics you posted of the caterpillar. That is one amazing little booger. I'm going to get out my Latin for naming of Gregg's Mist. Then I can ask if you are growing the same one that I grow. And if I should be on the lookout for one of those cool cats.

Um, what kind of passion vine do you grow?

The caterpillar is definitely amazing and I hope I see them again next year because they're neat little creatures.
I used to have the blue crown passiflora but I yanked it out last year because it looked so horrible after Summer. It fed lots of cats in late Spring and early summer. Thumbs up
