I have no idea celia! I would never had thought of this.. but you can identify which family it belongs to if your comfortable enough getting a close up of its eyes!

Yea same here, I had a large spider in my boiler house for 2 years! It was similar to teganaria gigantea tho much darker and had greyish markings. I haven't seen it once this year but its eggs are still hanging.

It kind of looks like what is referred to as a cobweb spider. Sure don't know the technical name for them though.
