Hey all, I've been trying to find out what tree this is. Can anyone help me? The fruit is a brown leathery skin that once removed is a small but that is almost exactly like the peas used in split pea soup, even splits in half like that.

If it is a Loquat, the fruit are all over ripe - or something. The leaves, however, are right.

I agree

Welcome! I'm wondering what the size of the fruit is - the seeds inside a loquat don't look like split peas do they?

The leaves do look like Loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) but I'm not sure about the fruit.

Knowing what part of the world the tree is growing should help narrow it down. I also thought the leaves resembled Ficus saussureana but I don't know what the seeds look like for that one. https://www.google.com/search?q=ficus+saussureana&biw=1263&b...

It is growing in west California. All the fruit on the tree appear as the picture. They are about an inch and a half round.

The fruit is a little past its prime. They should have been picked last spring.
