Plant ID forum: What the heck is this? Mini-cornstalk?

Hello all! I was up in Scarborough, ME, last week and saw this really cool plant in a planter, but no one seemed to know what it was. It looks like a mini cornstalk with some very soft plum/brown plumes on the ends. I love it! Anyone know what this one is?
