We are so happy you found us and hope you'll share your photos with us! We started this forum with only Purslane because several of us are CRAZY in love with it. But it's cousin, Portulaca, asked to be included so here we are. A blend of two beautifully vibrant summer bloomers!
Here is an article about Purslane here on All Things Plants
I'm now "watching" you two! I've never had many of either of these two plants in the gardens but the few I planted last year and a few more this year they're proving to be spectacular plants with the heat AND drought.

I love purslane more than any other flowering plant. I wish it smelled like gardenias.
Debbie, glad you tracked Vic and me down...we'll be happy to enable your love of purslane. Be sure to read the article.

A word of caution to newbies; don't plant your purslane in your flowerbed..it takes over. I learned from experience. Plant it in a pot by itself. It's blooms are everlasting and beautiful! I've planted portulaca for years, and it may be in same family but never takes over anything. I plant portulaca in an old bird bath. In fact, I'll probably be planting that today. I recently repainted the bird bath a royal blue or cobalt blue and all the beautiful colors of the portulaca will be beautiful in it.
Big patches of purslane out on the property would be nice, but that doesn't seem to happen. Wildlife eats it if it comes up at all out there.

I got about 10 plants of various colors and planted them in one of my front yard garden beds. One of the neighbor's cat decided to used the bed as a litter box and it pretty much killed them all with the digging and such. Will get some more soon as I saw them at the garden center and will plant them in between my Amaryllises. Do you guys think that they Amaryllises will be alright?? Or would there be to much competition for space and nutrients??
