Our grandmothers used apple cider vinegar - in a lot of the foods served in the summer. It has many benefits... high in vit C, purifier of blood and kidneys, and something they kept on hand as a matter of course when other citrus fruits weren't available. I see this question raised, but few stop to reply so thought I would post an unresearched answer.
An old tea or coffee cup replete with darkened stains can give you a visual idea. If rinsed with clorox, those stains bleach out, but remain in the cup. If you rinse with vinegar, the vinegar attaches those coffee/tea stains to its own molecules and carries them away. Same as your body. 1 TBsp of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water a day helps cleanse blood and kidneys and carries the impurities and flushes them.
If shining copper bottom pans, the same chemistry happens. Vinegar or lemon on the copper, with salt as a scouring agent, cleans that copper good as new. However, that acidity can eat the copper bottomed pan up, and even your body can overreact to the acidity. Use sparingly! Thumbs up

Forgot to add! Grapefruit juice is known to react to many medications! The result can turn your liver cold hard dark and crumbly! PLEASE use caution in the things you combine!
