|I am helping my neighbor with some yard work. I am looking for plants that are low- maintenance. They will be planted facing North. I am looking for something that doesn't get taller than 4 feet. Something with some color. Maybe Croton?
Thanks for your help.

|Hi Shirley Ann, what part of Florida? It makes a big difference how cold it will get during the winter, especially in a north facing bed. I am in Sarasota which could be called "central Florida" but since I'm near the coast, it's warmer here in winter than, say Orlando.
Will the bed be mostly shaded during the days? Don't forget the sun gets a lot lower, so if they are on the north side of a house, anywhere within about 10ft. of the house is in the shade all day. But in summer it will be in the sun all day so this sort of messes up what you can plant there.
I put things that need to have some cold dormancy on the north side of my house. This keeps them as cool as possible through the winter. So for instance, you could plant daylilies there but they won't bloom until probably April when the sun finally gets high enough to hit them. Then they will take off and bloom off and on all summer/fall. For winter color you can use some cool-flowering plants like pansies that like the cool and bloom in the shade.
