Would it be possible to set out somewhere what the optimum banner width should be to avoid the split? I find that more rather than less of the banners are not wide enough to fill my screen (I admit to being a dinosaur using a PC with a wide screen monitor rather than some minature e-device), with a split about 7/8 of the way to the right. Very disconcerting. I know that the directions for creating banners state they MUST be 150 [whatevers] tall, could it also give a minimum width so the image is continuous? Sadly, I simply scroll down when jarred with an unpleasant split. I think it looks sloppy for the site itself, and is an unfortunate slight to the folks submitting the otherwise beautiful banners. Just my thoughts, no offense intended.
I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.

I've also been trying to figure out how to make them so they show up properly. Please do give us some new guidelines! I also have a huge monitor with high resolution and most of them have the split on mine.

I just logged on and it appears that the logo in the banner area has gotten wider and the banner itself has gotten narrower - with no visible split. Shrug! Am I imagining this or did Dave make a change already?

I made no changes recently to the banner area.
