This picture was taken in mid-North Carolina but I suspect it may be a non-native species. Any ideas?

The foliage (from a distance) and the flared buttress reminds me of taxodium distichum, but the overall habit doesn't seem quite right. It could be the angle of the photo and/or the immaturity of the young-ish tree, tho.
