It is a small plant, native to Argentina. It grew by itself in my garden. It has a bulb deep in the soil and its flower lasts only one day.

Maria,
Just like you, I saw H. lahue growing in my IL's lawn about 3 years ago and also in my parents backyard. I dug them up (and they are deep) and they have rebloomed for me the last several years. Here's a photo from last year. They are one of my favorites.

I've collected seeds from them and hope they will germinate and develop into bulbs.

Oh ! Good for you Betsy !
I thought of digging the bulbs up, but they grew in the middle of my garden and it is not a big garden. I did not want to make a hole in the middle of the grass....

Maria,

I had to dig them up before the lawn people came and mowed them down. They do bury themselves deep in the soil - I had a hard time digging them out.
I'm so happy to have them and will be even happier if the seeds germinate Crossing Fingers!
