St. John's Wort - Hypericum beanii?
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and proclaiming...."WOW What a Ride!!" -Mark Frost

My immediate thought was St. John's Wort - Hypericum Hidcote or H. calycinum.
I hadn't heard of H. beanii before, so looked it up and found it to be hardy from Zone 7a to 9b, which might be the zone in Marin County. Thank you Ricardo, for this little exercise in research. I'd like to try one of these that is hardy in my Zone 5b garden, since they can bloom for a long time in the summer.
