As a comment about Rose (Rosa 'Konrad Adenauer'), Lisaevo wrote:

I have a Konrad Adenauer hybrid tea rose and it throws what would almost be climbing canes in the fall, very similar to Folklore. According to the breeder, Tantau, it is a short rose, but in my Zone 6b, it is easily 5' tall during most of the season, with canes that are 10-12' long after the middle of September.

Is this common or is my rose a genetic outlier?

Lisa, have any of the long canes ever bloomed? IF they do, I'll bet they're a small, red rose, not your hybrid.

Take a look and see if they are originating from below the graft on your bush. If they are, then they are suckers of the root stock, not your hybrid. The other way to tell root stock suckers is that there are 7 leaflets on each set instead of 5.

So, if there are 7 leaflets, or the long stems originate below the graft, cut them off at the stem. From now on whenever you see them starting (look for 7 leaflets) cut immediately so they don't steal vigor from the hybrid rose.
