Mine like to spread their rhizomes across the top of the soil, so you may need to pot them up to give them some elbow room.
They also like lots of water and even grow IN water but as it warms up in spring it helps them to want to bloom if you let them dry out a bit.
Are your plants in full sun? They need that, too.
