I ask because you can find all kinds of stuff in potting mix and so wanted to know if potting mix may contain any harmful chemicals.

If you are planning to grow your vegetables in pots, potting mix would be my choice.

Gee wilikers ! I sure would hope so.
It would be scary to think that any planting soil had chemicals.
I wonder if any do. It wouldn't surprise me. Does anyone do testing of planting soils ???
Anything i say, could be misrepresented, or wrong.

Do you want to grow strictly organically? If so, then you wouldn't want to use any container mix that contains chemical fertilizer (such as Miracle Grow). It kind of depends on your personal definition of "harmful chemicals" -- I don't garden strictly organically (although I rarely need to use any pesticides, etc), so my answer would be that growing veggie crops in potting mix is perfectly acceptable.

I grow many veggies in containers and any good potting mix works just fine.
