Hey guys this is my 4th year growing dahlias and digging them up in the fall for storage. This year it froze earlier than normal(just enough to kill the top flowering part of my dahlias) than warmed back up for a couple weeks before freezing again and finally really killing the dahlia leaves, when I dug them up this last month I was surprised to find tons of starts where the eyes would normally be does this mean they wont store?? They look like more like stored tubers in the spring that are ready to plant......I've attached pictures

Dont worry about it - yes those sprouts will die off, but they will re sprout in the spring.

It does make it much easier to divide them, since you know where they are sprouting. Divide them and then cut the sprouts off, and store them for the winter. You should be good.

Thanks Geof. I have always wondered the same thing myself. May go down just for fun and see what's cooking with the bags in storage for over a month
