Hi coboro,

How certain are you of the identification of the iris in this picture? It doesn't appear to match the description of 'Rose City' from the registry or other pictures I've been able to find online.

Thank you,

I'll ask Jane Jordan. It was taken in her garden. I think it might have been a door prize iris the club ordered. Jane is usually very organized.

It doesn't appear to be anywhere near the same.

You should probably take it down.

Kent, here's what I got back from Jane.

Hi Carl,
It's definitely not Rose City. It was a mislabeled freebee from Aitken's.
I contacted Barbara and she suggested it might be Mescalero (M. Smith 2014).

The colors on the AIS website are different from my photo, but mine was a shade shot and that one is sun
The beard and the style arms are a match.
If you want to repost it as Mescalero is up to you.

That sure is a beauty! Lovey dubby and it sure looks to be a match for 'Mescalaro'. A photo can be seen on this page at the Aitken website: http://aitken-garden.goodsie.c...

Looking at the pictures of those gorgeous blooms sure makes me wish I lived in an area of the country where I could grow Irises. Sighing!

Can't you grow Louisiana irises?

Species Iris (Iris hexagona) are found here in Florida and I grew a few Dutch Iris (Iris 'Miss Saigon') when we lived farther north in the state but in the almost 50 years I've been in Florida, I've never seen those gorgeous bearded varieties in nurseries or garden centers.

Your comment got me googling and I found this page that says Bearded Iris can be grown even in south Florida! http://www.floridagardener.com...
