One of the best perks of having a greenhouse is winter blooms! Some of my Southern Hemisphere plants are starting to bloom now along with the Geraniums that seem to never stop blooming though they usually have drastic color and pattern changes in Winter. While puttering around this afternoon in the greenhouse I was thrilled to notice that my Cup of Gold, Solandra maxima has a bud!!!

Geranium "Raspberry Ripple - Gloxinia "Bolivian Sunset" - Pregnant Onion

So what's blooming in your greenhouse?

"The Universe speaks in many languages, but only one voice. It speaks in the language of hope; It speaks in the language of trust; It speaks in the language of strength, and the language of compassion. It is the language of the heart and the language of the soul. But always, it is the same voice. It is the voice of our ancestors, speaking through us, And the voice of our inheritors, waiting to be born. It is the small, still voice that says: We are one. No matter the blood; No matter the skin; No matter the world; No matter the star; We are one. No matter the pain; No matter the darkness; No matter the loss; No matter the fear; We are one. Here, gathered together in common cause. we agree to recognize this singular truth, and this singular rule: That we must be kind to one another, because each voice enriches us and ennobles us, and each voice lost diminishes us. We are the voice of the Universe, the soul of creation, the fire that will light the way to a better future. We are one."

Great idea for a thread, Anne, especially when most of the US is having frosty weather.

I love all hot colors and crave them in winter.
Yes, I love eating the nasturtium leaves as well as the flowers. I try to always have some growing, along with my cilantro that I can't live without.

Ursula I REALLY don't need another plant addiction but with your help it's probably going to happen!

Beautiful blooms! Costs enough here to heat the house, never mind the greenhouse, so there's nothing blooming in mine, but I sure like to see the plants that other people are growing! Smiling

In your area, Sandy, it would be too costly. Here it doesn't take much to keep the greenhouse at 60 and that seems fine for the tropicals I have.

My greenhouse is part of the house and the heating system is connected! On a sunny winter day the greenhouse is a nice heat sink and warms the whole house, at least during the day.
Just thought I throw that out here.... Smiling

That's a wonderful way to have it, Ursula. I would have loved that, but our house was built on a mountain top and they carved out the housepad just large enough to build the main house. The garage and well house as well as my Greenhouse is down the hill. It's not ideal, but it works.

Yes, it's well protected, but sometimes I really wish it was attached to the house!

That would be awesome, Ursula! We did add on a 4-season sunroom some years ago, which I had kind of envisioned as being a sort-of greenhouse, but we used windows with "low-E glass" which don't seem to provide enough light for things to flower during the winter. I could add supplemental lighting and such, but it seems DH isn't quite on board with that plan Whistling .

Sandy, I wanted to grow more plants in the house, and we do have a sunroom, but it doesn't supply enough light for plants to bloom. I wanted to add more lights, but my husband didn't care for that. I ended up getting a grow tent. I have high intensity lighting inside, and the light doesn't bother anyone. It makes plants flower very quickly. I keep it in my craft room, but it could go in an attic, basement or spare bedroom.

I finally had my first Brugmansia blooms! These were from cuttings shared by Chris @Chris1948 from Texas. They sat in the post office for over a week and looked dead. I was so happy they rooted and started growing. I have been fighting aphids, whiteflies and beetles, but now I got the first blooms! This is a webcam pic since i am not near my greenhouse right now. At least I get to see them from afar. The color isn't good. I'm sure they are a much brighter yellow.

I always think it so funny when a brug cutting blooms and the flowers are as big as the whole plant.

DE - diatomaceous earth - works really well for bugs on plants in the greenhouse.

I agree, the flowers are huge in relation to the plant. I'm pleased at how long they last.
Thanks, @Xeramtheum, how do you use the DE? Do you sprinkle it on the soil and water it in, or do you actually dust it on the leaves?
