Im starting vege seedlings in house.
1st time. I have grow lite.warming mat.
and fan. Got ideal of using
1 Tbl. Peroxide in gallon of water to water seedlings. To prevent damping off and excess drain water from getting stagnated. Will it hurt seedlings over long period of time ?
As allways : Thank Y'all !!!
Ohh!!! And ho ho ho !!!

Hi Philip,

The chemical formual for hydrogen peroxide is H2O2. When you mix it with water, H2O, the chemical reaction forms oxygen. So you get oxygenated water.

Watering cuttings with hydrogen peroxide water (either in the soil or in a jar) really does work. But, I'm not sure if watering seeds with hydrogen peroxide water would have any benefits at all.

I feel a science experiment coming on (yours, not mine Smiling ). Try watering some of your seeds with the hydrogen peroxide water and some with plain water. Keep track of what plants are watered with what and tell us the results.

One tablespoon per gallon might be 8 times weaker than you COULD use safely.

(I assume that you will start with 3% "drugstore" hydrogen peroxide, not the 35% "food service" peroxide. If you are starting with the super-strong food service peroxide, than maybe 1 TBLSP/gal is a little too strong.)

This website suggests 0.1% H2O2 for watering, misting or soaking seeds:
http://www.using-hydrogen-pero...
http://www.using-hydrogen-pero...

They suggest 1/2 cup of 3% peroxide per gallon (or 2 tsp of 35% per gallon).

I think it helps prevent damping off, but less-over-watering and a dry surface layer of bark chips also prevent damping off. Soaking seeds in 0.1% peroxide before sowing seems to speed germination, perhaps by shortening dormancy.
