Tom, Dimson, Neal, Rob, and Jane: Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and obsevations. I learned a lot.

And Neal many people told me last year that it wasn't Cow Patty and I wasn't completely convinced either so that is why I pulled the pics till I could confirm.
I think the people who grow Irises are about as special as the flower itself!

I think some irises are more prone to color variation then others given different conditions. Cow Patty seems to be one of the more extreme cases.

Yes, you'll have to share your photos so we can follow the colour changing saga! Hurray!

I had this discussion with Elsa. I think there are many points in common with her "yellow" Cow Patty" and my redder one. We both live in warm climates, hers more desert, mine more humid. I really think the color difference in our Cow Patty's is more related to mineral content of the soil than the temp. We have discussed exchanging rhizomes of the iris to see if our "color" travels or if her rhizome here will be redder and my rhizome there will be yellower.

I hope both of you trade. That would be a test.

Leslie: I did check my clump and chances look really good that I will be able to send you a rhizome.

Elsa - that would be great. I told one of my local iris society gentlemen about it and he is really keen on knowing what we find out. I told him it will take a couple of years!
