Hi. We are currently in winter period and its cold outside. I have the house with heat. Is my tree getting too much water or needs more watering? Thanks

P.s leaves are brown and i ended up trimming them

A way to tell if it is too wet would be to lay it sideways on some paper or a tarp, and slide the plant out of the pot. If the root ball is all wet and soggy, you should let it dry out for a week or so before watering again. It does look like the base of the trunk is wet in your picture.

It also looks like it might be needing more light. Are you keeping it near a window with good daylight coming in?

Well said. And putting it on a stand or table will get it away from the coldest air near the floor.

Looks like a Beaucarnea recurvata. I would feel the trunk if it is staying firm, and I would position it near a bright window for more light.

I grow my ponytail with much grittier media, so I would be very careful when you water. If your soil is still wet when you dip a bamboo skewer or even a toothpick, delay watering.
