Welcome to the new shows and shopping thread for 2017. We came from here:
The thread "Orchid Shows and similar/ What did we buy in 2016/second thread" in Orchids forum

Our Sarasota Orchid Society show is always the first one of the new year. I took over 100 pictures, but didn't get too many names, so please just enjoy the pretty blooms:

These were some of the biggest orchids I've seen - nearly 9in. across and fragrant.

A lovely melange and one of my favorite color combinations, C. Palmer's Apricot

Nice little Vanda. Beautiful Lycastes were everywhere, but I'm not trying to grow one, they like it coolish.
Thumb of 2017-01-08/dyzzypyxxy/623b03 Thumb of 2017-01-08/dyzzypyxxy/5cd394

It makes me crazy every year - two beautiful clumps of Yellow Birds all blooming at once. Mine do bloom almost constantly, but never a big show like this.
Thumb of 2017-01-08/dyzzypyxxy/6ab336 Thumb of 2017-01-08/dyzzypyxxy/1ac6f9

Leaving the show, this little mockingbird was hunkered in a bush with his feathers all puffed up against the cold wind. Never moved even when I put my phone right up there 2ft. from where he was. Even Florida birdies are wimps when it comes to cold weather.

Green Grin! This one?

nodding Or this one?

It was a real treat on a cold day, but, have to admit I didn't buy a single orchid. The prices are just too high for me at the shows.

Just the thought of having to bring another one in the house on cold nights would scare me off but I was waiting for the loot picture also. Big Grin

I did buy one more of Patty's beautiful beaded baskets, and some note cards of original orchid paintings by a friend, and fellow master gardener. Took a few names, including that Palmer's Apricot though. If I get to visit the growers this year, I know what I want to buy and can maybe score a better bargain if I'm not buying a plant in bloom.

I'm glad I didn't go...I would certainly come home with a few of those beauties and busted the budget...I'm scheduled to visit my sister in Miami next weekend and there will be a show there..although it would have been nice to have a cup of hot something with Patty and Elaine! My plants are still inside and I'm already seeing some bud blasts going on Grumbling

Well, some plants were acquired today..
I am very happy though as I brought a large crate full of plants (from divisions and bare roots that I had done ) for my sister...and filled the crate with newly acquired plants..so maybe my population remains the same?

Lindsey, this looks like a nice loot! Smiling Well done!

We spend a few hours today at the North Jersey Orchid Society Show, the Show is ongoing to Sunday. There was a huge emphasis on pretty species this time, very nice plants and exhibits to be enjoyed. My IPad camera got a bit of a work out, and I did try to add as many of the names as possible.
Here we go:

Me too, and the 'Fire Magic' is no slouch either. Might have to look for one of those next trip to Apopka.
edited to add:
Whoa, wonderful show pictures, too. I have to take them in small doses so as not to suffer overload. I do love the display of the black flowers against the Spanish moss.

Whoa, sensory overload here. Great shows ladies. Ursula, I love the unique presentations in some of your photos like the strawberry jar, the pallet and that Christmas tree display. Interesting that they featured species, it is sort of like the current emphasis on native plants in the garden.
