This morning I checked my email, and there was one from Ebay with results from my automated search on my account. It is a first edition. What a lovely thing to happen on a Friday the 13th!
Of course I bought it. I have never seen it offered for sale before.
Please post about Peony books you have on this thread.

I bought that book along with another one she wrote. A smaller version. Mine is not a first edition - wish it were. It is a reproduction so the pictures are all black and white. I love books and have ordered many on different subjects that date way back. I envy your great find.
I just ordered the book "Peonies by Allan Rogers". Was recommended and I found it at Adelman's although you can also find it on Amazon, and Alibris (used books). Around the same price as your book. Has a lot of info on Saunders who is just fascinating. Sounds like we have him to thank for all the luscious hybrids we have.
I just ordered a book by Halda recommended and sponsored by Heartland Peony Society. Looks really good. Also another whose name I forget. HPS gets some credit as well as my other favorite non-profit Alaska Native Plant Society through Amazon Smile.
I only have a couple, the Martin Page and a paperback Lins one produced recently by the family. You're inspiring me to find more, LG! I'll start searching for propagation info ones....
Mary Stella, I love the Heartland Peony Society website. Their FAQ page has a wealth of information. I recommend that section often to newbies. I will check their book section out.

That's the one LG mentioned she had bought. Didn't know you could download a pdf. Course she will have the lovely color plates. Mine is a reprint and is in black and white. Like someone ran it off a copier.
The PDF book is colorful, you can print it out use a color printer. Also other formats, e.g. black and white version, ePub, kindle version are available for download on bottom right hand corner.
There are also some very old books about peonies at the bottom you guys can check.

I have been reading the ebook link provided by Littlebin. What a great book of info! Just in case that anyone is interested in hybridizing, here is a link to the anatomy of a peony flower so you can more easily follow the descriptions of the parts described in the book.
Now I am wondering if there is a place where all the old APS Peony bulletins have been preserved electronically? If not, I wonder how much it would cost to do so?
Now that would be some good reading on a gloomy day!!

Thanks Littlebin for the links. It specifically stated that the book I bought is not in copyright, so I may see if I can take a picture of the color plates and if it turns out nicely post it.

Little Bin and Karen. Thanks so much for these urls. It will provide tons of information and pictures for my peony articles on the ABG website. And I was thrilled to actually see the pictures in Alice Hardings books in color. My copy is really rather poor.
And many thanks to LG for starting this thread. Is almost worth making it a sticky due to the historic nature of the urls. Or maybe a sticky could be made and the urls pasted in to make it more succinct
