I have these two plants in my front yard. They are about 7-9 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide, with small purple flowers. I was told they were coastal rosemary, but they do not look like the pictures of coastal rosemary I have found. They are some sort of drought tolerant plant that grows well in a dry, Mediterranean climate. Many thanks for your help.

Sometimes people say "rosemary" or "coastal rosemary" and mean several different species of Westringia.

The foliage resembles rosemary but the growth pattern and slick bark do no look like any rosemary I know.

Is the coastal rosemary family the same as the herb anyway? I didn't think so (I thought they were separate plants with the same name, rosemary), but I'm not 100% sure.

I don't know. The fragrance of a stroked branch might solve the question.
