I was adding a book to the Green Pages and was wondering what the fields ISBN-10 and ISBN-13 were and what, if anything, I should be putting in there?

It is an international standard book number. The earlier ones had 10 digits and the later ones 13 digits.

Terri, I'm not sure how you'd add a book to the green pages and I'm not sure what those lettered fields/symbols mean. I think the Green Pages are for recommendations of vendors rather than specific items like books. I may be wrong but I know that @Dave can help.

I just noticed that on the green pages there is this:
"New! Browse our list of recommended books."
If you look there you can put in a book that's not listed. I don't think all books have the ISBN numbers. I put in one today that didn't seem to have it. Maybe it was privately published?

On the book I added, the ISBN number was on the back and right above the QR code(that block of dark lines that can be scanned). It was in very tiny print but it looked like this.
ISBN 978-1-58017-702-3.
I just double checked and it was also located on the Dedication page of the book, a different number was given for the hard cover edition and for the softcover editioin.

Seedfork, the book I added has no QR code either. I just carefully checked again. I have no idea why it's not properly coded like most books. Maybe it costs the authors to have them coded?

I am not sure, but if you ever really had to have the ISBN for a book, I think you could just do title search on the internet and find it.

Seedfork, I've looked up the book in multiple sources including amazon, and no one has an isbn # for it.

Interesting bit of information here:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/sell...

I see Amazon does show an ASIN for this book: B0049XOFK0

I did see that, Woofie, but I figured it is an Amazon assigned number.

I read also that the ASIN is the same number as the ISBN number on Books.

According to their website:
"Amazon Standard Identification Numbers (ASINs) are unique blocks of 10 letters and/or numbers that identify items. You can find the ASIN on the item's product information page at Amazon.com. For books, the ASIN is the same as the ISBN number, but for all other products a new ASIN is created when the item is uploaded to our catalogue."

Thanks all for the feedback, and Woofie, that was a great informative link. I don't see the ISBN number on the Amazon description for the book I added to the Green Pages, but will look on the actual book when I get home and edit the book details if it has one.

@plantmanager
I did a search with the book title and then added ISBN and brought this up.

Interesting! Would a re-issue have a different ISBN number? I see that one is a 13 digit number, and the Amazon number is only 10.
