Have just had a water softener installed in the basement .
BUT now I have no tap in the house that is not hooked up to it !
Will softened water destroy all of my indoor plants ? including one orchard plant ?
thank you for your help
The outdoor taps our not attached to the machine.

Softened water is harmful both to plants and to the soil they're planted in.

We only soften the hot water in the house, not the cold water we drink and cook with.

Welcome!

Yes, water softeners are usually hooked only to the hot water. And Yes, harmful to your plants. And you too if you are worried about salt intake.

We have a rural place with a well, and our softener is on the main water line into the house, so it gets both hot and cold. Oddly enough it has been 9 years here, and none of my houseplants have had problems with the water.

Oh, thank you Karen for that! We are also on a well and had to install a softener because we needed a UV disinfectant light, which won't work with our hard water. I have been rather worried about the plants, so it's good to hear that you haven't had problems with yours.
