Plant ID forum: Mystery vine! Could it be a rose?

Can anyone tell me (if they can) what type of thorny vine this it?

My Landlord did plant a rose plant of some kind in the back yard years ago and last year my mom's boyfriend kindda... mowed over it....
This is a photo of that plant:

I mean I am pretty sure that's the right spot... it has thorns looks half dead... definitely could be the plant that was mowed over last year.

All these photos were taken today (1-22-17) I'm in Connecticut and it's still winter.

Oh yeah all the mystery thorny vines seems to be coming from under the blue pot but in the ground.
I'll try to get better photos of the leaves on the mystery plant they look similar in that they are jagged edged but the mystery ones don't have red around them

I agree, the stem, thorns and leaves definitely fit some sort of Rose!
