Ask a Question forum: A new Streptocarpus but what is its name

Hi. I´ve bought a new potplant afew days ago. They didnt know an name of it except Streptocarpus.
I would relly want to now the latin name. Its looking a lot like St Paulia dont know if they called so in English too. I live in Finland. I will send a couple of pictures of it.

Hi and welcome. Saintpaulia is also known as African Violet here in the US and it is related to Streptocarpus but not the same. Yours is a pretty Streptocarpus and that is the botanical name but we might be able to find a cultivar name. Could you give us a better idea how big it is? (put your finger next to a leaf and take a picture, or something else for size reference)

I looked through the list of Streptocarpus in our Plant Database (you should go check it out! top of the page above the title banner) and didn't see a picture that looked exactly like yours. Had no idea there were so many different cultivars, colors shapes and sizes, too.

If you could post another picture in a few days when more of the flowers are fully open, that might help match it to a particular cultivar. The flowers might open wider, or be a more vivid color as they mature a bit.
