I see on the right that there is an option to
- View only finished threads
or
- View only open threads

And, I also note that the instructions ask that the thread starter go back and mark as expired when the deal is done.

Would it be possible to actually have a field that the thread starter has to complete that contains the 'Expires' date?

That way, the system would be able to automatically expire old deals.

Just a thought and no big deal if it is too messy to implement.

I've certainly thought about doing that, but it would definitely be messy to implement. The moderators of the forums keep an eye on those things, though, and close a thread when the OP forgets to.

- View all threqds

I wish those were "sticky" options for each person, in each forum.
I would set the "Garden Deals" and "Plant ID" forums to be "View only open threads".

I think one reason not to was that new members might forget about that feature and wonder where all the threads went.

RickM, I make no claims of perfection, but I do try to go through once a week and mark threads as expired. So, don't stress about marking things expired if you don't have the time. It's just nice to have the help. Smiling

RickCorey, I asked Dave about that last year and he said that it wasn't possible at that time but that he might think about it. Smiling

Thanks Danita. I wasn't trying to find fault with anyone. I know that everyone involved with keeping the site up and running is a volunteer. And sometimes, things just don't quite bubble up to the top of the list.

(I volunteer as web designer for the 4-H History Preservation site, so I totally know how things don't always make it. Right now, I'm working on formatting a 200+ page document from plain text. And that doesn't include the illustrations!)

Imagine asking any other website for a new feature! Talk about five-year-plans!
