I have a small flower and herb garden that I just put in last spring. It was covered with leaves from all the trees in the yard. I just got out there today (lovely day) to rake them all out so it would look neater. Should I have done that or should I have left all the leaves laying on top to protect the plants? Also, I have two butterfly bushes that I put in last spring as well. Should they be pruned back? I have a pile of aged manure that is mixed with saw dust. I wanted to scatter that on top of the garden soil as well, which is why I raked the leaves. Thank You.

Preparing for winter? Heh, I look out at the four feet of snow covering my property and think "I have no idea where you may be located." Smiling It would be a good idea to go to your profile page and add a bit of information as to where you're located. Makes it much easier for folk to offer helpful suggestions.

Also, the answer will be different depending upon how cold/warm your winter is.

yennob, please take a few moments to complete your profile page. It will give us a fighting chance to give you good answers to your questions if we know where your garden is located. We don't need an exact address; just a city/state/country. Thank You!
