Want to plant short trees not to block sun from solar panels on our house. House faces north west so gets full sun. Wanted to look for trees that will do well. Some trees looking at was star magnolia or Western rosebud, camelias, Japanese maple . Did not know if there are any recommendations. Not interested in tropical plnts.

The magnolia sounds promising, it will grow slowly and never get very tall. The other three, I believe, prefer to grow in partial shade. There are Crepe Myrtles that stay fairly short. You also might consider some Junipers. Where are you located?
