Probably more than the weather man. We had a year like this a few years ago.where it was warm and a hard frost in April . ruined my azaleas. My roses recovered. Just wanting someone to predict if we are gonna get a cold snap like that lol

I'll predict it. I lived in central OH for almost 4 decades. Hope it's not too harsh! I've been taken off-guard by frost here near FL border in the first week of April before.

It's only mid February -- I don't think cold weather is over and done with, even in Kentucky.

Nope, it's not over. Cold weather will come around again near the beginning and middle parts of March. I'm a voodoo sorcerer, which is 18 times better than a weatherman and 235 times better than a groundhog.

Don't know if winter is over in your part of the country but here in Savannah the robins have arrived en masse and they are heading your way. Spring will be here very soon. Just hang in there. Thumbs up

In my area, the weatherman is complaining that of the first 15 days of Feb, 9 of them have been in the 70s.
More seventies predicted for the next 7 days... had a touch of frost this morning...and the weatherman said that it was 39 degrees!

In KY/Ohio/ Penseltucky, I would plan to see more cold... but... You should get out there and do soil prep anyway.

Excellent time to be out there digging out turf and get the soil ready for veggies and whatever.

And... hey, winter or not, you could plant irish taters, carrots, cabbage, onions, poppies, fava beans... snapping dragons, toadflax.... sweet peas.... snow peas...

Don't let the fear of old man winter stop you!

I lived in the inner city of Louisville for three years. Due to the urban heat island effect parts of the areas of downtown, Smoketown, Butchertown, and Old Louisville are actually in Zone 8A. It is the only part of Kentucky to be in that warm of a zone.

Trust what your parents, neighbors or nursury tell you about last frost date. Dont trust USDA last frost date. Thumbs down They say mine is Feb 4th. Thumbs down
My father and farmer uncles. Allways told me April 15th. Thats for Fresno CA.
Butt ! I've allways planted seeds and starts , mid March.

Hear in fresno. Temperate weather, got all the farmers fruit and nut trees blooming like crazy.......
Then..... Two weeks ago..... A cold front. With storms. Been raining amost every day and high temps in the 60s. After this wed. The rain will taper off, but the temps will still be in 60s at least the next ten days or more.
OHHH !!! Baby....Its cold outside. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
Winters back hear !!!
I bet it will be back for you !
For one more Hooraw ! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I had no idea that people lived in Pekin. Whenever I've been there it's just trees and deer.

(Kidding, kidding...)

That is us... I still use the 6a though...just in case. I have new hardy kiwi that have sprouted in their packages...about 8 inches right now. I am going to try planting them today. Have other stuff I'm itching to plant. Getting all the seeds out today as well. Can't find cabbage seed yet.. .or purple broccoli.

Always looking for interesting plants for pollinators and food! Bonus points for highly, and pleasantly scented plants.

I've been pulling up vinca and ditch lilies all day the previous owners planted them in the shade so they are all spread out reaching for the sun none of them look like they have bloomed.

The vines are happy although I'm not happy with their location it's the ditch lilies that are spread thin reaching for the sun not blooming.

Hate that vinca....
http://stonethegardener.tumblr...

While those ditch lilies can be a bit aggressive.... At least you can eat them.... Not sure anything eats that invasive periwinkle, the Internet is full of pics of that stuff covering the world.
