Can I start my own forum and if so, how do I do that?
Thanks.

No, sorry, the forums are fixed. You can start a thread in any existing forum, though, and make it about whatever you want (on the topic). There is even a sandbox forum where you can stretch into random topics.

@AgaveGirl1 You could post a request on the site talk forum.

I believe there was a hydrangea forum created not so long ago by request.

I was wanting to start a forum on zones 9-11 specifically and for those of us who live in this unique corner of the world. It ranges between 90-118 for 7 months out of the year and then we get sub 32 degrees temps at night in the winter. Quite a contrast. We are also humidity free 90% of the time.

Many of us are Xeric species growers that focus heavily on Agaves, Aloes, Mammillaria, hedge hogs, barrels, and p.pears, etc. that are indigenous plants to our area and not natives or typically grown in others. Our soil is also unique in that we have 4 types and sometimes all of them in one yard! Rolling my eyes. We get into heavily into detailed agave and aloe discussions, species, specifications, propagation, etc.

I know Thijs and Nils (Baja) will join. The three of us had the longest running forum on DG prior to coming here. I had started it and called it 'Sizzling Agaves'.

Thijs and Baja hopped on immediately and were two of the main contributors. Several others joined in. Thijs, as a matter of fact lives only an hour from me. Between the three of us and some others we had an amazing photo journal running of these plants at all stages, and detailed notes on growth, climate, propagation, etc.

Our forum 'cactus and tender succulents' is nice but a lot of people are on it. They are from all across the U.S. and it is hard for them to relate to our climate, specific challenges and plant requirements. Also, while it is fun to hear and see what everyone is doing, a lot of it is not centric to desert plants or cacti and diverges off topic to succulents and other species not even cacti related.

Active conversations get lost or pushed aside to make room for all. Not a bad thing, as all deserve to have their space and enjoy their moments in the sun. (That's what we are about. Thumbs up ) The misfortune, however, is that a profoundly informative and good thread will interrupted or forgotten about.

I took a look at the S.W. gardening forum and it seemed to be dead air. I was hoping to revive our focus with a new forum that showcases our specific area of interest, concerns and knowledge. I know for sure Thijs and Baja will join me. Hurray! They had said so. I am certain there are several others will as they focus specifically on the same plants as we do.

I know it is a bit narrowed in its focus but would you please consider a "Sizzling Agaves" forum for us desert rats? Hilarious!

Thanks,
AG.

@Agavegirl1, as syzone8aUK suggested; to request a plant specific forum, start a new thread on the Site Talk Forum: https://garden.org/forums/view...

Use a subject saying something like: "Anyone interested in a forum specifically for Agave?"

If enough members respond I'm sure the forum will be added; otherwise I guess Agaves will have to be discussed on the Cactus and Succulent or SW Gardening Forums.
