Plant ID forum: Help identifying this tree pretty please!

Hello,

Recently moved to a new place. The back garden bed was neglected and out of control. A huge mandevilla vine was taking over everything (hard pruned it all back) and this tree is growing behind it way to close to the patio. It looks similar to the mandevilla. Could it just be a massive overgrown stalk of the mandevilla?

Looks like a young Gumbo Limbo tree to me. As young as it is yet, it doesn't have the typical red bark.
Gumbo Limbo (Bursera simaruba)

Crush a leaf & see if you get an odor of turpentine-like.
From the photos I can't tell if the leaves are alternate as they would be in Gumbo Limbo. Check out this link:
