I live in Central Florida. I've been plagued by this highly invasive weed that sends thick white root runners underground and come up everywhere. They can form dense clumps of tall grass-like weeds. They literally choke out other plants that they clump around. It is everywhere in my front yard, especially my garden beds. I've been pulling up this weed, along with as many underground roots as I can over the past year and they seem to come back, multiply, and become even stronger.

Help! I need not only an ID for this plant but also some suggestions on how to get rid of it.

Photos:

Photo of what the roots look like. They send runners all over the garden:

This shows how it grows up like tall grass and settles around plants like this shrub to eventually choke it to death:

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer in IDing and eradicating this invasive weed.

You can dig out the roots, then put a barrier so it can't creep back where unwanted.
