I would like to know more about the care & growth habits on the beautiful
summer annuals. I know some are more upright than others. Would like to know which varieties are more suitable for hanging baskets, sun or shade, spreading, or more tolerant of summer heat.

Thunbergia alata (black-eyed susan vine) is great for hanging baskets. If you like fragrant plants mignonette is nice smelling but needs to be planted with other plants as it's not really pretty. Both of these I grow in part shade. Petunias are good too. For hot and sunny I don't know what you could put in a basket that wouldn't fry. In ground, sunflowers, leonotis, poppies, there are lots of full sun annuals. I discover more every year . . . there's a million of them.

There are soooooo many lovely annuals. Did you know that we have a forum dedicated to just Annuals? You might like to browse that forum. https://garden.org/forums/view...
And one of my favorite annual flowers (one that I came across from looking around here Smiling ) is Salpiglossis sinuata, aka Painted Tongue. Really striking flowers; the photos don't do them justice.

I think the poster is asking about fuchsias, "Would like to know which varieties are more suitable for hanging baskets, sun or shade, spreading, or more tolerant of summer heat."

Here is an article on hanging basket fuchsia care: http://www.fuchsias.net/cultur...

And if you click on their Picture Gallery link, there is a link to their list of trailing fuchsia.

Ah, I believe you're right, Sue. D'Oh! Having grown up in SoCal with a nice big fuchsia in the front yard, I just don't think of them as annuals. Rolling my eyes.
