On the downside, there aren't any big (non-box-type) daylily sellers close by...
On the upside- I see market space lol...

It a good thing pretty much everyone is too far from me for a road trip... I'd have to pull the car home, having spent all my gas money on daylilies...

Can you tell me, when you get a mail order of daylilies that are bare root, with maybe just a few new leaf shoots starting, would you expect those daylilies to produce flowers that first summer?

@conniepr27 it is hit or miss. Some will bloom the first year and some need a year (or two) to settle in. I am pleased when I get bloom right away but have learned patience when I don't

It is amazing that some plants with a nice full fan of leaves will not produce a bloom the first season, while the runt of the bunch that looked so pathic on arrival is the first to send up a bloom.

I ordered this plant back in early spring, but the vendor's labels got lost and he had to wait for it to bloom before he could id it. So it arrived today, 5 fans and already blooming. I will plant it later this afternoon.

I added two more named and a seedling to my collection today. Took a drive up to a daylily farm in the northwest corner of CT.
The two named ones are Marque Moon and what is supposed to be Black Eyed Stella (which was a gift).

The black eyed Stella has scapes about 24-30 inches tall, which doesn't meet the original specifications.

The huge clump that I got, which is a seedling and unnamed had the most awesome big yellow blooms was a cross between Esperanza and Kate Carpenter.

So out of curiosity, I looked up this combination to see if there are any registered plants. Lo and behold there are two and they were registered by this gentleman. So I guess my question would be, is this another seedling that he grew and never registered or is actually one of the two that he registered.... similar stats. He actually labeled it Esperanza x Kate Carpenter, but regardless, I loved the plant habitat, the flower and that it is an early bloomer. Of to go figure out how to add it to my database. Smiling

I guess I picked up were you left off. I started placing my first fall shipment orders. I really need look no more, Im trying to wait to people start lining out.
Enjoy up there in Iowa.

I have to tell on myself. I have never really been to the midwest, could not put all fifty states in the right place out there for sure, so, for chatting purposes, I have put up a map here in the study in front of me. When it says...Iowa...I look up, there is Iowa, and it seems like whomever is right here.

Haha I feel the addiction. I ordered more on July 1 but they can't ship until week of July 10 because of the heat. I'm worried I won't be able to wait that long and will want to order something else soon LOL!

I'm excited to add them all to my garden.

Have you noticed that you can smell the daylilies before you even open the box? That's a nostalgic aroma for me.

If I may ask, how did Carved Coral perform?
