Hello, my friend has a little toddler and I was wondering if it is save to give them this plant as a present. Does anybody know the name of this plant? Are the flowers poisonous?
Thanks a lot,
Corina

I'm not certain but the pretty plant in your photo reminds me of Japanese Pieris (Pieris japonica) which does have toxic qualities that, according to this page can be fatal if ingested: https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/pl...

Hopefully others will be along to confirm an identity for you.

That is a beautiful shrub with the chocolate young leaves.

Don't believe it is Pieris.
Possibly one of the Gaultheria sp...which will probably have berries.
(Not Gaultheria procumbens or Gaultheria shallon.)

Many many common plants are poisonous.
Very rarely do they kill.
Children have to be taught not to eat strange berries.

While we are trying to make suggestions...why not find out where @CorinaHernndez lives or where this plant is growing. Please, can you let us know your city/state/country? Thank You!

Thank you for your reply, I live in New Orleans, LA in the USA. I was gifted this plant and I know it came from a store but had no tag

Thanks again and have a great day!

Would it be possible for you to carry the plant to a few nurseries in your area to inquire if they know the name? I had to do that once with a plant and no one could identify it until it finally bloomed for me.

If you are unsure of the identity of the plant, perhaps it would be best to select an alternate gift; something that the toddler can safely enjoy.

Yes, I think I'll do that just to be 100% save ;) appreciate all the input.
Have a nice day,
Corina
