This plant just started growing in a corner and is crawling along the ground and up the wall. I'm in Southern California. Does anyone recognize it? Thank you Smiling

It kind of looks like a dayflower, Commelina.

If it ends up with blue flowers, it's a Commelina, as suggested above. If the blooms end up being white, it's Tradescantia fluminensis.

Love your wall!

I was thinking about Tradescantia but the leaves on the subject plant have petioles. Tradescantia do not.

Thank you all! I would be happy to see some flowers in this drab little corner but looking up dayflower, people seem to be referring to it as a weed and saying it spreads out of control. Should I be worried about controlling its growth or keeping it from spreading?

Daisy, excellent point.

If it's native to where you live, it can't invade its' own territory. Whether or not you want to cultivate it can be decided when it blooms. Necessary to observe the blooms to ID to species level. Some species have "wow that's pretty" blooms, other species have blooms that are so small, you have to look for them to observe them.

Let it grow until it blooms so you can id it, but keep an eye on it. I pulls easily, but also reseeds easily, and it could become a pest.

TY for the update! Definitely a Commelina. Careful examination of the foliage & bloom can lead to specific species ID.
