That's fun!! I like to wait until the baby plant starts to form. First, because it's fun to watch. And 2nd, so it doesn't have to push up through the soil. But I doubt in the long run it would make much difference either way. Whatever you prefer to do should be fine.

I really was going to move Sans plants this year before they filled with leaves. But did I? Doesn't look like it.

It's going to be such fun to just plant these out in the landscape when we move to FL! I split up a pot of short sans and surrounded a potted ficus with them. Can't wait until they multiply into a "ground cover" for the container, such a great look!

I stuck a couple of rooted leaves into 4" pots and noticed while watering today that one is putting up a baby!

I used to leave cuttings in water for months, but I had brugmansia cuttings rot on me last fall, and lost a couple this fall also despite frequent (3-4 times a week) water changes. So I got nervous about leaving Stush's leaves in the water once they started to strike roots. I'm so excited that one has a baby sprout!

There's another tall slender leaf that's still in an inch of water -- no sign of rot, but no sign of roots either.

I don't follow what other people are doing either when I feel like I should do something else. And isn't it more fun to discuss when somebody else has done something different? Either way, best luck!

FWIW, I'm sure I've never changed water on Brug cuttings in water for winter, and not had any go rotten. I only remember changing the water for Sans leaves when they were outside & I was worried about starting a mosquito farm.

Sans love water so long as it's kept warm. Old formula is; water + cold = rot

I had 4 sets of brug cuttings rooting this year. 1 set started rotting and just didn't stop, no matter how much I trimmed off or how often I changed the water. The rest are fine, even the ones that need to be potted up (soon!).

The sans leaf that's been in water for months is on the kitchen counter, probably 70 +/- 3 degrees. Still no roots on it, but 3 little red-edged leaves struck roots over Christmas vacation.

I think so too. If the heater out there in my shed keeps working, hopefully it will stay that way.
