I have a wintersweet shrub that I planted 3 years ago. There was no blooms in years past until this Feb when the bush bloomed 3 flowers. Is this it or will it have more blooms when the weather warms up?

It probably bloomed because. of our unusual warm winter. If we are talking about the same shrub mine bloomed late fall. It took three years after planting before it bloomed after planting.

That is the problem with common names. I had a Clethra and they call it summer sweet shrub. I did a google search on winter sweet shrub and summer sweet shrub came up.

Thanks Cinta. The one that I have has a scientific name as Chimonanthus praecox. The flowers smell really wonderful. I would love to have the shrub bloomed again but I wonder if it is like magnolia and blooms only once a year.

If it is like the summer sweet shrub it probably will not bloom again. But it sounds like you should get summer sweet then you could get summer and winter bloom. It smells really good to like a soft lilac fragrance that you can smell from a distance. The good thing is it blooms late summer early fall..

I grow mine in California, near Santa Cruz. It's a reliable bloomer every year at Christmas time. Wonderful scent, and gets nice yellow fall color. It's the yellow foliage in front of the car, just to the left of the red tree. Just cut it back last week.. it was getting a little too big.

Sherry, you have yours planted in a great spot! Must be wonderful to smell the flowers when you walk by to use the car. Does it rebloom for you after its main seasonal bloom?
