I was given this plant today. It's pot was small and breaking apart, so I put it in something larger. Now I wonder what I should do about the part of the plant that is growing out of the container. I don't mind the look of it but since the bottoms are looking brown and dead, I worried that that cascading part would break off or die. The lady who gave it to me thought I could cut parts off and put them in the soil to grow, but the plant feels like an evergreen of some kind rather than a succulent so I wasn't sure about that. Does anyone recognize the plant and know how I should care for it? Thanks in advance!

It is succulent I believes, Looks like Crassula muscosa to me, you could cut and grow the cutting as suggested by previous owner, they tend to loose their leaves at their base, as they grow tall and old, trimming would encourage basal sprouting, and it will look better I guess.

Thank you! I trimmed it this morning and it is looking much better. I'm hoping the cuttings grow well - it's such a pretty plant!

Hmmm... looks like my blooms showed up in Sept. & Tarev's in Nov. Is this something your plant does regularly at that time of year, Tarev? If mine has done it before Sep. 2015, I missed it, but have been checking since then.

It was actually the first time I saw it bloom, plus it has been quirky weather late last year to this winter. We got the cooler and wetter conditions in fast, so maybe it helped tickle the buds. Ah, yes, I also remembered to put the container closer to the house during summer, away from too much direct sun here, and I think it helps as well to cool down.

TY for sharing what you've seen! My plant has been in the same spot since we moved, in April '14. Wonder why it felt so peppy in '15? The original stem/roots are in my older mini garden. I'm going to redo it as soon as I can this spring or summer. Maybe that will perk it up again, the soil is from spring '13.
