Becky, that seedling is not my doing. All I've done with it is stumble across it, as a starry eyed rookie, on the LA buy it and plant it..... Kim Klarner, aka "Spuria", is the hybridizer I tip my hat to you. I tip my hat to you. .....the acclamations belong to Kim.
My brain is too mushy to attempt hybridizing!! Blinking Blinking Confused Hilarious! Hilarious! ... but thanks just the same!! Thank You! Smiling Smiling

Anyone else? With all of the dayliliy purchases people are making right now, that should mean some people just bumped up to a range that allows for an additional daylily favorite, right?

I'm looking forward to seeing which end up being my favorites this year. I have so many new ones coming in that it might be hard to decide!

Last year was a horrible blooming year for me because of the drought. I can't say that any of them were my favorite because they all looked pretty bad (and had short scapes, few buds, etc). I'm hopeful for this year though. So far we have had a lot of rain (more expected tomorrow) and since we didn't get another hard freeze in April most of the daylilies are looking pretty good (some got damaged in March when the temperatures dropped dramatically from what they were in February). I'm hoping this year will be much better and I can see who really shines. But since my season doesn't start until June all I can do is Crossing Fingers! .

Elena, are you noticing thicker leaves this year, by chance? I haven't fertilized or done anything special, but in just the last week or so I was really wow'ed by the leaves on some of my daylilies this year. (Matchless Fire and Dominic have the most impressive leaves at the moment, but there are quite a few others that impressed me, too...)

Hard to say but the plants do appear lusher to my eye. I did fertilize them already since I had barely fertilized them at all last year and I wanted to perk up the ones that got damaged.

The cultivars that were hit by the drought particularly hard last year are definitely smaller with fewer fans. The early bloomers were fine last year because the drought didn't hit until they were already blooming. But my midseason and later plants were awful. Most of them look great this year with all of the rain so far.

I'm hoping all the plants perform well this year. I'll probably fertilize them again soon since they'll be putting up scapes this month. I got a lot (for me) of new cultivars from Maryott's last sale and surprisingly they all not only survived but look really good also. Most are evergreens and probably won't last more than a couple of years before dying. I'm hoping they bloom their heads off this year so I can make lots of crosses with them!
