Hi everyone.

I have an apricot tree in my front yard. I just noticed today 100 or more flower buds on the tree. I know the flowers will make fruit when pollinated, but I am worried about pests. I am worried pests will dig into the fruit and ruin it. I have vague memories of this when I was 6.

My question is, How do I prevent pests from ruining the fruit?

Second, The bark is splitting on the tree in some places. I did research and I cant figure out whats causing it. How do I fix this problem, if it is even fixable?

Thanks!

Jared

My parents had apricot trees. They would always cover them with bird netting after the fruit started forming. it was a big pain, but if they didn't, the birds would eat it all. I think they also had to spray for insects, but I'm not sure what they used or when they did it. I hope someone will come along with more help!

We talked about these problems (with your apricot and cherry) earlier this season. Your local Agricultural Extension can help you decide what the problems are. I suspect you should have sprayed before the tree bloomed.

Hi there!

@Daisyl, There is one problem with calling the county extension office, I already did. They couldnt really figure it out, for some reason. Anyway, If it is too late to spray the trees, oh well.

Thanks for the info!

Hello!

I actually think I called the wrong place, now that I think about it. I will try again tomorrow.
