Plant ID forum: What type of bushes are these?

Just wondering what type of bushes these are and what would be the best way to trim them? We had a wet winter in California and a lot of the leaves wilted.

Forgot to say, I have some growing in a container and I just trim off the brown leaves in the spring.

ferne97, yes they have really beautiful flowers during the summer and they are really gorgeous when mass planted! This is a photo I took when we vacationed in the San Diego area in July one year:
