Hi, Does anyone add Mycorrhizae to their larger planters to produce the beneficial fungus found in garden soil? If so do you use about the same as in the garden or less (or more)? Thanks! ~ Bob

I sometimes receive a packet of that stuff with new plants. I spread it around. I have no idea if it really does any good. Theory says yes, but it is really hard to tell.

My best guess is that it won't hurt any plants, so, why not?

Thanks Yardenman, I was thinking the same thing. I often use bagged potting soil as a basis for pot and planters and add ingredients (perlite, compost, etc) as needed depending on the plant(s). I have no idea what microbes and fungi might be in that bagged soil, but I know there will be some from the soil the plant itself is in. I don't plan to add much but I'll give it a try.

Last season I saw the moist soil in my storage container was nicely covered with silver-gray fuzzy fungus several weeks after having been left covered (to keep rain out). It got stirred in as best I could do so I know that batch had plenty of stuff to break fertilizer down for the plants! It looked as good as the same silver fuzziness in the compost pile after everything has cooled and begun breaking down.
