Hi, orchid folks! Mom and I went down to Selby gardens about two weeks ago to see the Chagall exhibit. They've also redesigned a lot of the gardens to reflect the gardens in France that may have inspired Chagall's paintings. One of my favorite places at Selby is the conservatory and I have to admit, I've never seen it look so good.

I added all the plants I could to the database, but I know orchids are "special" and there were quite a few I didn't see and didn't know how to add. I meant to make a thread about it earlier, but I've been sick. Then, I saw where @Australis just associated an orchid I took a picture of at Selby a while ago and so I figured I had nothing else going on tonight. Hilarious! I'm in bed sick with asthma. Saw the PA last week and will see allergist on Wednesday.

Let's enjoy some orchids! Here are the ones that I couldn't find in the DB or wasn't sure about. I'll include pictures of the tags in case you think there might be a misspelling because I've seen that happen before.

Just so the above picture makes sense, this is the larger photo so you can see the effect of what they were doing with the orchids and bromeliads cascading out of the pots. Drooling

Cattleya Koolau Seagulls 'Volcano Queen'

Cattleya X guatemalensis. This is one I wasn't sure if I should post to the DB entry because of that X thing.

I'm just showing off here. This is still inside the conservatory! Drooling

Well, those are the ones I couldn't find or wasn't sure of. Hope you liked seeing them and that someone can help me get them into the database. Orchids intimidate me. Hilarious! And if you have a chance to get down to Selby, go before it gets any hotter! Chagall is there through July, but you don't want to be there in July.

Thanks for the photos, Melanie! I will try to work through them and add them to the database for you.

Hope you can sort out your asthma... I suffer allergies as well and the right specialist can help.

Oh my, great show Mellie. Selby always takes my breath away and Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! I will be there next week. I didn't know about Chagall, Thumbs up Thanks for the walk through. You know, I find Selby so relaxing that even in the heat of mid summer you don't notice the temp much. Of course, I am used to muggy weather.

Feel better soon, asthma is no fun.

Glad you all liked the pictures and thanks for the well wishes. I've suffered with allergies and asthma since age eight. Been seeing the same doctor, too. I like to make him feel old. Hilarious! Josh, thanks for helping improve the Plant Database! We appreciate it!!! Thumbs up

Nice pics, Melanie. I go to Selby pretty often, even in hot weather. The saving grace is the sea breeze in the afternoons, and of course all the nice shade of lovely trees. The breeze blows lots of the pollen away too, if you go in the afternoons.

Hey guys, I just noticed on the front page someone posted a picture of Orchid (Guarianthe skinneri 'Heiti Jacobs') Do you think that's the same one I have listed up there as 'Hetti Jacobs'?

@mellielong - Yes, I think you're right. After doing a quick bit of digging, it seems like this clone has been called three different names (all misspelling or understandable errors):

- Heiti Jacobs (which seems to be the name it was awarded under)
- Hetti Jacobs (often sold as)
- Heidi Jacobs (another variant; less common)

I'll amend the database entry with some comments and add those photos shortly.
