I'm fairly new to roses. I have a couple in my yard and I'm aware that new growth looks red.

I just received a Night Owl climbing rose in the mail. It's new growth is bright pink. Is this normal? Rose rosette disease?

Thank you for any help

I have several roses which look like that every spring and some are even darker.

You don't know if it will grow until you try!

Me too.

Mostly hybrid tea roses or floribundas, I think. And generally ones with red, purple, or dark pink flowers, or flowers that blush. The leaves on Firefighter now are a deep purple with not hint of green. Gemini's and Chris Evert's are almost as dark. I cannot remember seeing it on rose plants with plain white or yellow flowers or on damasks, gallicas, or rugosas.

There are exceptions. I had forgotten about April Moon which is technically not a HT rose. It has whitish yellow flowers and this year in my garden it sports bronzy purple new foliage.
When you dance with nature, try not to step on her toes.

My Ducher (white) always has maroon foliage early in the year.

That growth looks healthy and normal to me.

If it does indeed has RR, I think you will be able to tell as soon as the leaves are a little further along as they will be clearly misshapen? But others here will know more about that than I do.
